Yoshiharu Habu

Yoshiharu Habu, F.M. (羽生善治 Habu Yoshiharu?, born September 27, 1970) is a professional shogi player and a chess FIDE Master. His teacher is Tatsuya Futakami.

Biography

Habu became a professional in 1985. He was promoted to 9 dan in 1994.

The number of titles he won is 2nd on the all-time list behind Yasuharu Oyama. Oyama won 80 titles, while Habu has 72 as of March 2009.

He held simultaneously all 7 major titles (Ryu-oh, Meijin, Kisei, Oi, Oza, Kioh, and Osho) in 1996 (from February 14 to July 30).

Habu is also one of the best chess players in Japan, with an Elo rating of 2404 (April 2009).
